Norwegian Christmas Stocking
HeartStrings knitting pattern #S19
Norwegian Christmas Stocking knitting pattern was originally published in the format of a holiday greeting card. This traditional design is always popular. So even though the original holiday greeting card format is no longer available, you may now purchase a pdf version of the pattern instructions in downloadable format.
Sample model made from Norwegian Christmas Stocking knitting pattern
Norwegian Christmas Stocking is a classic top-down sock construction in holiday colors of corrugated ribbing, stranded knitting, and contrast heel flap and grafted toe. The pattern features a classic Norwegian 8-pointed star motif presented in chart format.
I did this card/pattern way back in 1991! The terminology and writing style pre-dates the official launch of the Jackie E-S/HeartStrings pattern line, but patterns like this are timeless. Anyway, you might get a kick out of how I say "round" needles rather than calling them circular needles.
The finished size is a nice roomy 17" leg length and 13" foot length. Use any worsted weight yarn in your choice of 3 color and whatever needle size gives you the suggested gauge of 5 stitches per inch (we used needle size US 7/4.5 mm. here, although size/gauge is not as critical as having a firm fabric). Yarns used to knit the sample model shown are Top of the Lamb Worsted and Lamb's Pride Worsted, both by Brown Sheep Company.
