Lace Leaves Scarves
HeartStrings knitting pattern #H38
Lace Leaves includes an appealing beginner lace scarf plus a follow-on advancing skills project. You'll enjoy knitting one or both of these companion scarves featuring interlinked lace leaves. You might even think about making one for a friend and keep the other for yourself.
The narrow Lace Leaves Scarf is knitted from end to end in one piece. It makes up quickly and will be a nice treat for those on your gift list, or even yourself.
The longer wider version of Lace Leaves Scarf has shaped ends and is knitted in two pieces, then joined at the middle by an easy method that does not require grafting. The resulting seam is invisible to all but the most discerning eye.
Narrow Lace Leaves Scarf (left) and Lace Leaves Scarf with Shaped Ends (right)
Instructions for two scarf designs are included -
- narrow rectangular scarf; finished size 44" by 6"; 150 yards fingering weight yarn
- scarf with shaped ends; finished size 72" by 10"; 400 yards fingering weight yarn
Size US 5 (3.75 mm) needles suggested for average gauge of 5 stitches per inch over blocked lace. Shown above in Schaefer Yarns Anne 60% superwash merino wool/25% mohair/15% nylon (make both scarves with a total of just one of their 4 oz - 560 yard skeins; keep one scarf and give the other as a gift!) Charted and written stitch instructions.
Here is another example of the Lace Leaves narrow rectangular scarf showing a larger close-up. This one is knitted with Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock in the Black Watch colorway.
