Spiral Nebula Shawl
HeartStrings knitting pattern #A71
Let your yarn take the starring role.
Spiral Nebula Shawl is easy knitting with a distinctive shape. It is a good choice where you want to let your fancy yarns be the design element. Pattern guidelines are given for any weight yarn and size.
Spiral Nebula is a fluid asymmetrical crescent-shaped wrap that shapes itself naturally in gently curved lines outlined in lacy yarn overs.
The slightly more-than-semicircle style lies nicely around your neck and stays on your shoulders for carefree wearing. This adaptable wrap can be arranged in a variety of ways, so have fun and wear with flair!
Easy knitting makes this a good choice for the beginning knitter, or even the more advanced knitter who just wants to relax and let the yarn be the design element.
The shawl pictured above was knitted in a strand of hand-painted kid mohair/baby alpaca/merino boucle and a strand of hand-painted novelty rayon held together and knitted as one yarn. Spiral Nebula Shawl is so adaptable, and can be worn in multiple ways. In this version, the long tail is simply thrown over the shawl. See below for link to other examples of how this shawl can be worn.
The spiral shape of the shawl laid out flat.
Spiral Nebula is started at the neckline, thereby letting you knit to any length and ending either with a simple bind off, or as in the version pictured above that continues the front edgings along the bottom edge in an uninterrupted pattern using short rows and mitered decreases - no grafting needed! Guidelines for needle size and yardage for various weights of yarn and shawl lengths are given in the pattern. Written stitch instructions.
