Crest of the Wave Lace Scarf
HeartStrings knitting pattern #A20
Pin It
This lovely lace scarf is named after its main pattern stitch "Crest of the Wave", a derivative of the popular Shetland lace stitch Feather and Fan or Old Shale. The main stitch area of graceful lacy waves is surrounded by a knit-as-you-go elegant ribbed openwork border.
This is one of my favorite easy lace scarves to knit. The pattern is easily memorized, and it drapes so well in a wide range of yarn weights and fibers.
Allow 500 yards of lace or fingering weight yarn for 14" x 60" scarf, or desired length with yardage adjustment. 4½ stitches/inch, size US 6 / 4.0 mm needles suggested. Shown above in 2-ply handspun silk yarn. Charted and written stitch instructions.
Because of the wavy structure of the stitch pattern, the Crest of the Waves Scarf pattern is lovely worked in variegated yarns, too. Shown to right in hand-painted silk/rayon from Heritage Yarns.
